Laughter Day

22 February 2017

What is the best sight in the world? The travel crazy people will have an array of answers ranging from Eiffel Towers to Niagara Falls. But what is one sight within the four walls of a room that can fill your mind as pleasantly as any exotic location in the world. That’s right. A beautiful sight that you can witness without a visa or packing your carry bags.

How about the laugh of a baby? Isn’t it amazing how a baby’s laugh makes you forget everything else in the world. That’s exactly what the best things do. They grab your complete attention and you forget who you are or where you are. You dissolve in it completely. No problems in the world can hurt you then. But what about grown ups? They seem to have forgotten that they could laugh or rather they are now faced with the harsh realities of life and there seems to be no reason to laugh. But should there be any specific reason to laugh? Isn’t being alive right now enough reason? Ya, probably you might see yourself staring the ceil of a mental asylum if you really applied that. The world takes the quote “Laughter is the best medicine but if you are laughing without any reason, you need medicine” quite seriously! But things are not the same. Nothing will ever be. Now you can laugh without any reason. We have the WORLD LAUGHTER DAY!

Many greats such as Albert Einstein and Mark Twain have praised India for its contributions to the arena of Maths, Literature and Culture and India keeps on contributing to the world even now! Laughter Day is a pleasant gift from India to the world. It was first celebrated on January 10 1998 in Mumbai and it was organized by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. The new year of 1998 must have been special for Mumbai! Laughter Yoga says “Laughter is a powerful and positive emotion that has all the ingredients required for individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way”. Madan Kataria was inspired to start Laughter Yoga by ‘Facial Feedback Hypothesis’ which states that a person’s facial expressions can have an effect on their emotions. Laughter Day aims to promote intentional laughter and it’s many healing benefits. Of course laughter cannot solve or heal anything but it can HELP solve or heal anything. The more happy you are, the higher your chances are to lead a healthy life. How often have you heard Doctors telling patients to stay positive!

The best way to be happy is to surround yourself with happy people! In an increasingly gloomy world, the significance of laughter day is not negligible. The butterfly effect says, even a minute thing such as a butterfly flapping its wings, will have a subsequent effect in the world. This means, all our little emotions and reactions dictate what is to follow in our lives. By spreading laughter, we invite pleasant things into our life. It is no surprise that Laughter Day’s popularity has improved significantly and now there are more than thousands of Laughter Clubs as part of Laughter Yoga Movement in more than 105 countries!
